Shopify
Publish and edit blog articles on a Shopify store, and read or update its products.
Shopify publishing writes an article to a blog on your store. Unlike most networks, the connection is two-way: FoPost can also list, read, change and delete the articles already on the store, and read and update the store's products.
Connecting
Two ways in, and both reach the same blogs and products:
- Install the app: Accounts → Connect → Shopify, enter your store domain (
your-store.myshopify.com), and approve the permissions on Shopify. The token does not expire. - Admin API access token: create a custom app in Settings → Apps and sales channels → Develop apps inside your own store admin, grant it the four permissions below, install it, and paste its Admin API access token into FoPost.
Either way the store needs these permissions: read_content and write_content for blogs and articles, read_products and write_products for the catalogue.
Only *.myshopify.com store domains are accepted. That is the host Shopify's Admin API answers on; your customer-facing custom domain will not work here.
What you can publish
| Limit | Value |
|---|---|
| Body | 100,000 characters, rendered to HTML: headings, lists, quotes, code, and inline images all carry over |
| Title | From the post title, or the start of the body |
| Image | One featured image (JPEG, PNG, GIF, or WebP), 20 MB |
| Tags | Carried over to the article's tags |
| Link | Appended to the article body |
A post published to Shopify goes to the store's first blog unless you pick another one. Per post you can publish live or hold the article as a draft to finish in the store admin.
Managing articles already on the store
The store's own articles are readable and writable, whether FoPost created them or not.
- List every article on a blog, drafts included, newest first
- Read one article in full
- Create a new article on any blog
- Update a live article in place. Only the fields you send change, and the article is addressed by its own id, so an edit never leaves a duplicate behind
- Delete an article from the store
Ask the agent for "what's on the store blog" to list them, and see Blogs and articles for the API.
Products
FoPost can list the store's products with their status, price, vendor, type and tags, and update a product's title, description, tags, type, vendor or status. Nothing in the catalogue changes unless you ask for it.
Inbox
Not supported: Shopify blog comments have no API FoPost can read or answer.
Analytics
None: the Admin API exposes no per-article metrics.
Deleting
Deleting the post in FoPost deletes the article on the store permanently. This cannot be undone.
