Discord

Discord connects two ways, and the way you pick decides what the connection can do.

Connecting

• Bot (recommended): in Connections → Discord, choose Install Discord Bot, approve the install into your server, then pick the channel in FoPost. You need Manage Server in the server to install an app.
• Channel webhook: open the channel's settings → Integrations → Webhooks, create one, copy its URL, and paste it in the same dialog. Simplest, write-only: it can post messages and nothing else.

A webhook connection keeps working exactly as before. To turn one into a bot connection, open the account in Connections and choose Upgrade to Bot — the account keeps its history and its scheduled posts.

To post to a different channel later, open the account and pick another one under Server → Channel.

Channel permissions

Installing the bot grants it permissions across the whole server. It cannot ask for an exception to a channel's own permissions, and Discord deliberately leaves those with you — otherwise adding an app could quietly unlock a restricted channel.

So a channel can sit in a server the bot belongs to and still refuse it. A locked announcement channel usually denies Send Messages to @everyone, which applies to the bot too.

FoPost checks this for you: a channel the bot cannot post in appears greyed out, both when you pick the channel at connect and in Server → Channel afterwards. To open one up, in Discord choose Edit Channel → Permissions → Advanced permissions, add FoPost, and allow Send Messages — plus Embed Links, Attach Files, Manage Messages, Read Message History, Create Public Threads and Send Messages in Threads if you want pins, media and threads to work there.

If permissions change after you connect, a publish to that channel fails with a message naming the channel and the fix.

Posting identity

A bot connection can wear its own nickname and avatar in your server instead of the app's. Open the account in Connections and set Nickname and Avatar URL under Server. Over the API, it's PATCH /v1/accounts/{id}/discord/identity; see Accounts.

What you can publish

A plain post arrives as a normal message. A post with a title or a link arrives as an embed instead: title, link, description, the first image, and tags in the footer. Attached files are delivered to the channel alongside it.

The 10 MB ceiling is Discord's own upload limit for a server with no boosts. Reply chains are not published as thread blocks on either connection; on a bot connection you start a thread on a message yourself.

Managing the server

A bot connection opens the server up beyond posting, from the account's Server panel or the API:

• Messages — delete, pin, unpin, list the pins, crosspost an announcement to servers following the channel, and start a thread on a message
• Events — create, read, update and delete the server's scheduled events
• Members — list the roster or search it, and read one member
• Roles — create, update and delete roles, and give one to a member or take it away
• Direct messages — send one message to a member of the server

Slash commands

FoPost answers slash commands from your server on a signed interactions endpoint. It replies only to the person who ran the command, and it tells them which channel the server is connected to. Reading the server's ongoing conversation is not part of this integration, so Discord is not an inbox source.

Analytics and deletion

Discord reports no per-message metrics, so there are no analytics on either connection. Deleting the post in FoPost deletes the message from the channel, on a webhook and on a bot connection alike.
