Slack

Slack connects two ways, and the way you pick decides what the connection can do.

Connecting

• Slack app (recommended): in Connections → Slack, choose Connect Slack App, approve the install, then pick the channel in FoPost. Public channels are joined for you; for a private channel, invite the app to it first so it shows up in the list.
• Incoming webhook: paste a webhook URL in the same dialog. Simplest, write-only: it can post messages and nothing else.

Either way you need permission to add apps in the Slack workspace. To post to a different channel later, open the account and choose Manage Account.

Posting identity

An app connection can post under its own name and icon instead of the app's. Open the account in Connections and set Name plus either an Icon URL or an Icon Emoji such as :rocket:. Every post and inbox reply from that account uses them. Over the API, it's PATCH /v1/accounts/{id}/slack/identity; see Accounts.

What you can publish

Messages render in Slack formatting: a bold title, the body, and a Read more link when the post has one. On an app connection, thread blocks publish as replies in the message's thread; a webhook cannot thread.

Inbox

An app connection feeds the inbox as things happen:

• Direct messages to the app, which you can answer from FoPost
• Replies in the thread of a message FoPost posted, shown as comments
• Mentions of the app in the connected channel

You can also start a DM with anyone in the Slack workspace: GET /v1/accounts/{id}/slack/members lists them, and a member's id is the handle to message. Other chatter in the channel stays out of the inbox. A webhook connection has no inbox.

Analytics

On an app connection, FoPost reads back reactions and reply counts per message. A webhook connection reports nothing; it is write-only.

Deleting

Deleting the post in FoPost deletes the message, on an app connection only. A webhook cannot delete what it posted.
